Alright blogger babe, you’ve got your hosting and installed a template. Now, you are ready to add plugins. A plugin is any “add on” to your existing site. Most of them are free or have paid upgrades. There are so many different ones and I know it can be overwhelming. I’ve put together my top 5 practical plugins that every blog needs. These are not going to change the cosmetic look, they are strictly for function that will make your blogging experience better.
Yoast SEO- also known as Search Engine Optimization. This is how your posts can get found on the internet. It can be really intimidating and quite frankly, so much goes into it that it will have to be a separate post on how to optimize it fully. But, if you are a beginner or just put it off (like I did for the first year or two of blogging..oops) this is the plugin for you. It’s very simple and gives you tips at the bottom of your post on how to boost your SEO for that specific article.
WP Complete Back-up – I had been blogging for about 6 months when I lost all of my content, I ended up having to pay almost $200 to get it off of a backup server with my hosting company at the time (for obvious reasons, I recommend a different hosting company, if you haven’t bought hosting yet read “My Guide For Setting Up Your Blog”). This plug-in is a MUST.
Akismet- This plugin will filter through your spam comments. You will definitely get them, so save yourself the headache now and download it.
Contact Form- With Instagrams email feature for business accounts, this hardly gets used on my blog. However, you should still have it in case someone wants to reach out to you from your site.
Shareaholic- You’ve definitely seen this plug-in on other sites. It allows your posts to be shared instantly on different platforms. So easy!
Hope y’all enjoyed this post on practical plug-ins every blog needs! If you want more info on plug-ins to customize your blog, let me know!
